ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA TO PARTNER WITH GESU INSTITUTE

The Gesu Institute will partner with the schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to present A Leadership Initiative. Twenty-five administrators from parish or regional schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will come together on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania during the week of June 30, 2008 through July 3, 2008 to focus on Capacity Building, Governance, Advancement and Marketing. Ongoing presentations, as well as, future planning for the continued implementation of the Religion, Rigor, Relevance, Relationship and Reflection Framework will be explored.

The Leadership Initiative is a 2 year program designed to disseminate best-practices in leadership and management while providing students with an outstanding curriculum to prepare them for the 21st century. During the 2008-09 school year, administrators will have on-site consultants available to assist with the creation of a strategic plan, a business plan, an advancement plan, a governance plan and the ongoing implementation of Religion, Rigor, Relevance, Relationship and Reflection. Roundtable meetings will provide administrators the opportunity to work with their colleagues on attaining specific benchmarks. In June 2009, a second and final week-long seminar will complete the work of this Leadership Initiative.

Saint Dominic Catholic School in the northeast section of Philadelphia is the first school to participate in the Leadership Initiative. After successfully completing a strategic plan, St. Dominic School formed an Advisory Council to provide ongoing support for the school. This model Advisory Council is composed of pastor, principal, educators (elementary, secondary and college levels) as well as a local political leader, members of the business community and members of St. Dominic Parish.

Applications to participate in this comprehensive Leadership Initiative are due by March 1, 2008 with the selection of schools no later than April 15, 2008.
