WHAT: Conwell-Egan Catholic High School, the only school on the East Coast to participate in the national Environmental and Spatial Technologies (EAST) Initiative, will welcome Mary Rochford, Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, for a lesson in community service - fueled by high technology.

The 57 students involved in the school's EAST Program use high-tech programs to revolutionize the way they approach community service projects. During her visit, Ms. Rochford will learn about past service projects whereby students leveraged technology, including a green roofing project for the school, a conceptual playground for special needs children at the Easter Seals, Interfaith Housing projects and other various community-based initiatives. Ms. Rochford will also participate in student-run business meetings, collaborate on upcoming projects and get a hands-on overview of the technology the students are using daily in the classroom.

In its third year at Conwell-Egan, the EAST program's classroom contains state-of-the-art workstations, software, and accessories -- including GPS/GIS mapping tools, architectural and CAD design software, and 3D animation suites. The EAST Initiative is a non-profit organization that provides new ways of learning for modern students through state-of-the-art technology.
