Mary, Handmaid of the Lord (God's Will)

Hello, this is Cardinal Rigali.

In Saint Luke's Gospel, we read that Mary, when asked by the Angel Gabriel to be Mother of Jesus, responded humbly, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Mary's acceptance of God's Will transformed human history. Because of Mary's cooperation, Jesus entered our world.

God has a plan for everyone. To do His Will assures our happiness. However, too often, we seek our own desires rather than what God wants. If we take Mary as our example, we will learn how to cooperate with the Will of God. In imitation of Mary, we can make the world a better place by bringing to it the love of God.

May God bless you!
