St. Katharine Drexel

Hello, this is Cardinal Rigali.

Saint Francis of Assisi advises, "Sanctify yourself, and you will sanctify society." Some may have a tendency to think of saints as people who lived long ago and far away. This Thursday, however, we celebrate the feast of Philadelphia's own Saint Katherine Drexel. Saint Katherine dedicated her life to the Holy Eucharist and to the education of Black and Native American children. She is a wonderful example of what Saint Francis says about sanctity. She lived right here in our own community; during many of our own lifetimes.

This selfless and holy woman serves as a wonderful reminder that saints are nearby. In fact, we are all called to be saints - in our own times and in our own community.

May God bless you.
