Third Synod of the Diocese of Philadelphia

The Third Synod was convoked by Bishop Francis P. Kenrick in 1847.  The Synod was held at Saint John's pro-cathedral in Philadelphia on October 3, 1847.  Rev. Francis X. Gartland acted as secretary to the Synod.

There were five decrees from the third Synod, which:

bulletpromulgated the decrees of the Fifth and Sixth Provincial Councils of Baltimore;
bulletoutlined procedures for financial affairs;
bulletconcerned the Sacrament of Matrimony, particularly the banns of marriage;
bulletregulated clerical attire;
bulletreaffirmed the parochial rights of certain religious orders who administered parishes in the diocese.
