One goal that we all share is the desire for quality Catholic education. The specific goal outlined in our Cluster 16 Pastoral Plan says: to offer quality Catholic education which meets the changing cluster needs. Since Cardinal Bevilacqua accepted the Cluster 16 Pastoral Plan in January of 1999, pastors, parish and school representatives from Holy Innocents, St. Joachim, Mater Dolorosa and St. Joan of Arc have been working to meet that goal. We want to share our findings with all parishioners and parents of school children so that we can determine how to best move forward to strengthen Catholic education for every child. Here is some background:

Phase I Marketing and Recruitment

(September 1999-June 2000)
Schools joined together to market Catholic education and promote increased enrollment.
Phase II School Self-Study

(November 2000-March 2001)
Schools assessed the quality of Catholic education. Each school completed a school self-study that examined Catholic identity, educational programs, demographics, temporalities and school facilities.
Phase III Self-Study Review

(September 2001-June 2002)
Pastors and principals attended series of meetings with officials from the Office for Catholic Education and Parish Financial Services. As a result, the parishes requested and received permission from Cardinal Bevilacqua in June 2002 to begin a Feasibility Study for the Restructuring of our schools.
Phase IV Feasibility Study

(September 2002-December 2002)
Review of the self-studies indicates the structure of our schools needs to change. Each parish is establishing a parish steering committee consisting of the pastor, principal and representatives from the parish and school. The purpose is to consult with parishioners and parents of school children as to how to best offer quality Catholic education that meets the changing needs of the Cluster.

You are invited to help us explore ways to strengthen Catholic education.
Input from every parishioner and parent is not only welcomed, it is very important.
At each parish meeting, a survey will be distributed.
