Message to the
Parish and school families
Of

The process we entered into over the past two years rendered us unable to come to a decision that was
acceptable to our parish members and school families. As we moved forward in our planning for the 2005-06 school year,
we realized that our school enrollment was quite low at 130 students.Conscious of keeping tuition at an
affordable rate for the families as a whole, an increased tuition rate for next
school year was set. The tuition would need to be supported by additional fundraising of approximately $300,000 as
well as the need of our Church treasury to be used to subsidize the school. The first of these supports, fundraising $300,000, is an
impossible task for a small school community to accomplish. The latter, emptying the parish treasury, is
unfair to the overall good of the parish. The life of the parish must be preserved above all us.Parish and school families

For these reasons, I must inform you that I have spoken with the Parish Pastoral and Finance Councils and have gained their support as I requested and have received permission from Cardinal Rigali to close Saint Josaphat Catholic School in June 2005.The students presently enrolled in the school will have the option to attend any other parish elementary school for the 2005-06 school year. During this first year of transition, I will financially assist those who are registered parishioners of Saint Josaphat with the increased tuition rate you may encounter in the parish elementary school you will select for your child. I expect that you will ultimately pay the same tuition rate, as it applies to your family, communicated to you in March 2005. If the tuition in the parish elementary school in which you register exceeds this rate, I will make up the difference.
I realize the sadness that this brings to all of us. I cannot allow the parish to become weakened as we attempt to provide a parish elementary school that we can no longer afford. It is my deepest desire to provide quality, Catholic education to all within the parish who desire it by supporting your choice of any other parish elementary school your family selects.
May the Risen Lord bless all that we do to educate our children in the faith.
