Working together to provide quality, accessible and affordable Catholic education in our area
In order to insure quality, accessible, and affordable Catholic education in our area as we move into the 21st century, the Pastors, Principals and members of the lay parish communities of our area continue to meet to discuss the future of our schools.
On September 21, 2005, our Steering Committee met with Bishop Joseph Cistone. During the meeting, Bishop Cistone reminded us of some of the demographical changes that have affected our Cluster in the last five years. He wanted us to be aware of the "bigger picture" as we discussed the future of our schools. Some of the significant statistics that he presented us with were:
Number of Parishes 8 Number of Schools 5 Catholic Population |
|||
Registered Catholics | 1999 | 13,001
2004 | 13,585 | ||
+584 | |||
Sunday Mass Attendance | 2000 | 4,314
2004 | 3,567 | ||
-747 | |||
School Enrollment | 2000-01 | 1,523
2004-05 | 1,264 |
Our committee was grateful for the Bishops input and will continue to keep the "bigger picture" in mind as we explore issues and options available to us in order to insure the continued presence of quality Catholic education in our area.
What can parishioners do during this process? The committee is depending on your continued prayers as we continue this important work for the future of our parish. We also need your advice as we develop a recommendation. We know that with God everything is possible, but we must be open to listen to God to learn where He is leading us in this stage of the life of our parish.
