Pastoral Plan for Cluster 23 Accepted by Cardinal Bevilacqua

Cluster 23 / Philadelphia-South Vicariate

St. Aloysius
St. Anthony of Padua
St. Charles Borromeo
St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Edmond
St. Gabriel
King of Peace

The Plan for Cluster 23 has been accepted by Cardinal Bevilacqua. In a letter to Monsignor John Conway, Vicar for Philadelphia-South, dated March 15, 1999, the Archbishop encouraged implementation of the Plan and offered his observations. His comments included commendation on the Plan's emphasis on evangelization, lay leadership, and stewardship. His Eminence encouraged, on a cluster level, an active promotion of vocations to the priesthood.

The actions of the Plan follow.

. The three parish schools of St. Aloysius, St. Gabriel, and King of Peace be consolidated with the site of the new school at St. Gabriel Parish. (The new school will be called "Our Lady of Angels School".)

. Close St. Edmond School.

. The two schools of St. Charles Borromeo and St. Thomas Aquinas be reviewed by 2001.

. Close St. Anthony of Padua Parish, dividing its boundaries between St. Charles Borromeo and St. Patrick parishes, effective July 1, 1999.

. The parishes of St. Aloysius and King of Peace twin in 2000 and subsequently close in 2002 unless a review would indicate otherwise.

. Form a committee for implementing a cluster-wide stewardship program.

. Plan cluster-wide workshops to develop good lay leadership.

. Develop a cluster-wide evangelization plan by Fall, 2000.

Cardinal Bevilacqua expressed his gratitude to all those who served on the Cluster Pastoral Planning Committee.
