CLUSTER 70 PASTORAL PLAN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Cluster planning Process in Cluster 70, concluded in February 1999. The following five goals and their corresponding objectives, were recommended by the Cluster Planning Committee

GOAL # 1: To allocate the clergy and laity in regad to pastoral care of the sick (in response to the projection that there will be 5 Dicesan priests in the Cluster by 2000).
.It is recommended that Saint John Vianney and Saint Justin Martyr be twinned and an additional permanent deacon, if available, be assigned to assist in the pastoral and sacramental care of the parish at the time of the clergy changes in June 2000. Two years after twinning takes effect, an evaluation of the twinning arrangement will be undertaken.
.As of June 2000, Saint Margaret and Saint Matthias Parishes will no longer have a parochial vicar (assistant pastor) assigned.
.Pastoral Care of the Sick and Hospital Coverage will be shared by the parishes in the cluster after priests are convened by the Regional Vicar to discuss this.

GOAL # 2: To foster cohesive Christian community within the parish and ultimately among the parishes in the cluster.
.Create an ad hoc committee (representatives from each parish) to: identify unmet religious needs in parish/cluster; establish a working group to identify resources inside and outside the cluster for lay ministry training; identify key individuals within parishes, who are already serving our Christian Communities, in order to share ideas about their ministries cluster wide.
.Create a media committee comprised of at least one representatives from each cluster parish to adopt a cluster planning approach to the media (e.g. television, radio, print, and Internet).

GOAL # 3: To provide programs for Catholic education and ministry, CCD, Youth Ministry, RCIA, and Adult Education.
.Bring together the ministry leaders of confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) Youth Ministry and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) to evaluate the possibility of cluster cooperation, and/or coordination.
.Form an adult education committee of representatives from each cluster parish to plan and implement cluster wide adult education opportunities.

GOAL # 4: To initiate steps to establish viable schools within the Cluster
.A Cluster Committee will be organized to put together a program for the promotion of Catholic elementary and secondary education.
.The Cluster Pastoral Planning Committee recommends that Saint Matthias School be closed, to become effective at the end of the school year 1998-99.
.The other parish schools were considered to be viable at this time.

GOAL # 5: To coordinate and consolidate parish social outreach programs
.A.
At the parish level, evaluate the possibilities for cluster coordination and/or consolidation of parish social outreach programs; and then,
.B. Form a cluster task comprised of representatives of each cluster parish to study and recommend which programs can be coordinated and/or consolidated.

Once approved by Cardinal Bevilacqua, the Cluster 70 Pastoral Plan will be carried out under the direction of an Implementation Committee. This committee will be made up of the pastor and two representatives from each Parish in the cluster and will ensure that the proposed objectives are put into operation. The implementation committee will hold its first meeeting not before September 1999.
