Communique No. 1, May 2000

Cluster 73 has begun the implementation stage of Cluster Planning. The implementation committee is meeting regularly and will report regularly on actions taken on the Plan goals.

The implementation committee has begun addressing each of the goals based on the time frames established by the Cluster Planners:

  • Goal One: To promote Evangelization throughout the Cluster.

A cluster committee has been formed with representatives appointed by each pastor to look at evangelization efforts in Cluster 73. This committee is gathering information at this time and plans to have a speaker from the Archdiocese's Office for Evangelization to give an overview of the various evangelization programs that can be utilized either on a parish or cluster level.

  • Goal Two: To promote Stewardship throughout the Cluster.

No action has been taken with this goal at this time.

  • Goal Three: Increase Knowledge and Appreciation of Our Faith through Education and Christian Formation.

Each Pastor has appointed representatives to a Cluster Education Committee. This committee held its first meeting, and examined the faith opportunities and needs of the Cluster. The committee has decided to focus on Adult Education and programs for youth (High School Age) on a Cluster level at this time.

  • Goal Four: To improve the Celebration of Sunday Worship.

A Cluster Liturgical Committee has been formed. The committee is working on a cluster liturgy workshop which will provide training and formation of lectors, Eucharistic ministers, cantors, etc. on a cluster wide level. Also pastors of all parishes met a few months ago to discuss the coordination of parish sacramental schedules among the parishes of the cluster. No action will be taken until some time is given for Immaculate Conception and Our Lady Help of Christians parishes to adjust to their reduction to one priest per parish.

  • Goal Five: To Use Effectively the Thirteen Priests in the Cluster.

The pastors of the Cluster convened and redistributed the pastoral coverage of Abington Memorial Hospital. Five parishes, with the assistance of Sister Michael Maureen, I.H.M., now provide pastoral care to Abington Memorial Hospital. These parishes are St. David's, St. John's, Our Lady Help of Christians, St. Luke's and Queen of Peace.

The Cluster 73 Implementation Committee has formed subcommittees that are part of the goals and plan. Criterion for these committees has been established, and is available through the pastor or implementation team. For further information, please contact your parish office or the cluster hotline at 215587-3868.
