CLUSTER 73 HOLDS ITS THIRD LITURGY WORKSHOP

On Saturday, October 4, 2003, the Cluster 73 Third Annual Liturgy Workshop Day will take place at Bishop McDevitt High School. Those who have attended the previous workshops can attest to the fact that they are not only worthwhile from an informational standpoint, but they also provide the oft-needed affirmation that what we do as people providing ministry in our parishes is needed and appreciated. One of last year's attendees wrote: "I have been to numerous regional and national conventions. Today was just as good, if not better . . . The presentations were varied, each presenter was very knowledgeable and passionate about [his or her] particular area. It is important for ministers to hear others talk on all ministries, not just their own . . ."

To that end, the Cluster 73 Liturgy Workshop Committee has put together a roster of presenters to cover each ministry, as well as a couple that will surely enhance every person's spiritual journey and life of prayer. Therefore, it is important that you attend sessions other than just the one being given on your particular ministry. Knowing how what you do plays a part in the mosaic of liturgy and how it fits into all the other pieces of that mosaic will go a long way toward your understanding of the role you have and toward the way you fulfill that role.

The presenters this year include Fr. Louis Bellopede who is such an enthusiastic speaker. This year he will lead a lively discussion on the topic "We Have Come This Far by Faith," in which he will make the Vatican II document on the Liturgy come to life for us at a plenary session. Fr. Ed Windhaus will repeat his presentation for new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. This session will fulfill the Archdiocesan requirement for the training of new Ministers, and includes wonderful insights into the beauty of this special ministry.

Sr. Mary Ann Johnston, a very well received speaker at our first Workshop in 2001, returns this year with the topic "Listen!" Our theme this year is "Listen with an Open Heart," and Sr. Mary Ann's session is bound to give us much food for thought that will help us in our ever-growing need to "open our ears" to the voice of God. Msgr. John Miller's talk centers on Adult Faith Formation - such an important topic for all of us in these days when so many things distract us from what is important to our faith life. Msgr. Miller's presentation on the History of the Mass at last year's workshop was a favorite of many, so this is a "not-to-be-missed" session.

Sr. Mary Agnes Ryan, IHM, Co-coordinator of the IHM Evangelization Center, a former Director of Religious Education, is the perfect one to speak on "Ways to Help Children Enjoy Worship." She's a dynamic presenter and comes with a great background from which to draw ideas for teachers, parents, and anyone who works with children. Sr. Regina Gormley, SSJ, an accomplished musician and Campus Minister at St. Joseph's University, will speak on the importance of music in liturgy. Music is one of the languages of liturgy - it expresses our hope, our faith, our love. Sister Regina will talk about the music minister's important role in leading the people in that language of liturgy.

Fr. Joseph Howarth's session will provide an introduction to the devout life of Francis de Sales. A healthy spirituality is built upon a healthy knowledge of self, and Fr. Howarth will weave into his talk the deep spiritual life of St. Francis in a way that all will be inspired to imitate. Sr. Patricia Moran, OP comes to us with the topic "Proclaiming the Word," an in-depth look at the ministry of Lector. As a member of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), Director of Vocations, Retreat Director and teacher, she is well qualified to talk to us about the communication of God's word which "has the power to stir the hearts of the faithful."
A choral session will be held for those interested as one of the last sessions of the day. Betty Emery, Director of Music at Our Lady Help of Christians, and Coordinator of the Liturgy Workshop, will teach the music which will be part of the Closing Prayer Service of the day. All who love to sing and "make a joyful noise" are invited to take part.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all who attend.
