St. John of the Cross Queen of Peace St. David

“Working Together to Provide Quality, Catholic Education in our Neighborhood”

September 2009

The parishes of St. John of the Cross, Queen of Peace and Saint David have embarked upon a study of Catholic education for elementary school aged children in the three parishes.,

The pastors have received permission from Cardinal Justin Rigali to jointly conduct studies of their schools.  This study process stems from the rapid demographic changes occurring in this area.  The pastors and principals of the parishes and schools will begin meeting on a regular basis to evaluate the future of Catholic education in our parish communities.  They are committed to ensuring an affordable, quality, Catholic education for our young people and believe that this is an opportunity to ensure the vitality of our educational offerings.

A School study Committee in each parish will examine demographic and financial information, enrollment history and enrollment projections.  This information will be given to the Steering Committee, made up of three members from each of the parishes, who will examine the information.  Over time, the Steering Committee will present options to the school families that have been developed by the school study committees seeking always to ensure access to quality Catholic education for all children in these parishes.

During all phases, committee members will be looking to parishioners and school families for input.  Surveys will evaluate what is most important to parish and school communities.  You will be asked to identify strengths, limitations, challenges and possibilities for the future.  This will be an open and consultative process with great emphasis on communication between the committees and the parish and school communities.

May God bless our work as we enter this period of study and consultation.  We ask that the Holy Spirit guide us as we provide the best possible Catholic education for the children in our care.
