Celebrando la Iglesia universal:
Misa Hispana

Representantes de todos los países de habla hispana de Latinoamérica, y España, se reunirán a las 2 p.m., el domingo 9 de octubre del 2005 en la Catedral Basílica de San Pedro y Pablo en las calles 18 y el Parkway, para celebrar su herencia como comunidad en la primera Misa de la Herencia Hispana.

Esta misa reflejará la diversidad que se encuentra en la comunidad hispana, la qual ha crecido en el área de la Arquidiócesis en grandes proporciones.
El obispo Joseph R. Cistone celebrará la misa y el nuevo Vicario para Católicos Hispanos, el Mons. Hugh Joseph Shields, dará la homilía. El Mons. Shields ha trabajado por muchos años con los hispanos y ha vivido en muchos países hispanos.

«Durante este tiempo de septiembre y octubre, a través de la nación se celebrará el Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Los católicos hispanos de nuestra arquidiócesis tendrán una oportunidad de celebrar juntos su herencia y su fe, profundamente católica, en esta misa especial. Hemos pedido a los participantes que vengan con los trajes típicos de sus países, para mostrar algo de las bellezas y tradiciones de nuestros países nativos»-dijo Anna Vega la directora de la Oficina para Católicos Hispanos.

«Representantes de los países latinoamericanos de habla hispana, y España, desfilarán desde el Logan Circle hacia la Catedral con estandartes de sus santos patrones y banderas de sus países.

Después de la misa tendremos un compartir al que todos están invitados. Los esperamos para, unidos, celebrar este evento que tanto significa para el pueblo hispano» -añadió Vega.

Finalizando con un sonado: «¡Qué vivan las tradiciones hispanas!»

Celebrating the universal Church:
Hispanic people united

Latinos from every country will be coming together at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Basilica Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul to celebrate their Catholic heritage as one community.

The first ever Hispanic Heritage Mass will reflect the diversity of the Hispanic community in the Archdiocese, which has grown considerably from its early days.

Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Cistone will celebrate the Mass, and the homilist will be the new Vicar of Hispanic Ministry, Msgr. Hugh Joseph Shields, who has a long history of working with the Hispanic community and living in various Spanish-speaking countries.

“During this time of September and October, when, throughout the country, Hispanic Month is celebrated, Hispanics in the Archdiocese will be invited to celebrate their heritage and faith, which is profoundly Catholic, in this special Mass,” said Anna Vega, the director of the Office for Hispanic Catholics.

“We’ve asked those participating to come dressed in their country’s native clothing, to demonstrate the beauty and tradition of our birth countries,” Vega said.

The procession, with the various flags and statues of Hispanic saints, will begin at 2 p.m at Logan Circle and move to the Cathedral Basilica, at 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. After the Mass, there will be a time of fellowship to which all are invited.

“We wait for you all ,so together we can celebrate this event that is so significant for the Hispanic community,” added Vega. Long live Hispanic traditions!
