Taraborelli, 70, pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas, dies
Father Arthur I. Taraborelli, 70, pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish
in South Philadelphia, died of cancer Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
A native Philadelphian, Father Taraborelli was ordained May 16, 1964,
at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.
He had been pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas since 1988.
Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Cistone celebrated Father Taraborelli’s
funeral Mass Tuesday, Oct. 3 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
Interment was at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.

Barone
Geraldine Barone (born Thompson), 66, of Rosemont, wife of James L. Barone,
died Sept. 22, 2006.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 27 at Our Mother of Good Counsel
Church, Bryn Mawr. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
She was the mother of Susan B. Davis, Diane B. Mitchell and James L. Barone
Jr. Also survived by three grandchildren and a sister, Joan Smith Hyra.
Sister Mary Bradley
Sister Mary Charles Bradley, S.S.J., the former Agnes I. Bradley, died
Sept. 15, 2006 at the age of 97.
Born in Philadelphia, Sister Mary Charles entered the Sisters of St. Joseph
in 1937. She served in the Baltimore, Philadelphia and Newark Archdioceses
and the Allentown and Harrisburg Dioceses.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 20 at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown.
Burial was at the community cemetery.
Surviving are cousins and members of her congregation.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Bradley, and a sister,
Geraldine Bradley.
Father William Gavin, S.J.
Jesuit Father Willim Gavin, 74, of Manressa Hall, Merion Station, died
Sept. 26, 2006.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 29 at Old St. Joseph Church. Burial
was at Wernersville.
He was a brother of Elizabeth Lynch and Robert Gavin.
Lydia Kane
Lydia Helen Kane (born Dolenteo) died Sept. 22, 2006.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 27 at St. Andrew Church, Drexel
Hill. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
Surviving are two sisters, Rosemarie Keller and Mary Ann Spadafora; also
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Albert Dolente.
William Magarity Sr.
William J. Magarity Sr., 85, of Wyndmoor, husband of Nancy Salmon and
the late Kathleen (born Donnelly), died Sept. 18, 2006.
He established Magarity Chevrolet in Flourtown and Magarity Ford in Chestnut
Hill.
He was a graduate of the former St. John the Baptist High School in Manayunk
and La Salle College.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Mother of Consolation Church. Burial
was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.
He was the father of William J. Jr., Gregory T., Maureen Magarity, Maureen
Ginty, Joseph C., Joan Nolan, Mark F., Nancy Siefert, Michael J., Patricia
Salmon, John P. and Lizanne Pando
He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Josephine Sheller
Josephine E. Sheller (born Endres) died Sept. 20, 2006. She was the wife
of the late Joseph B. Sheller Jr.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 26 at St. Charles Borromeo Church,
Drexel Hill. Burial was at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
She was the mother of Suzanne Dominick, Anne M. Alek, Joseph A. Sheller
and Mary Jo Sheller. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was a sister of Bernice Krause and Francis Endres.
Harold A. Smith
Harold A. (Bud) Smith of Newtown, husband of Francella Frelic Smith, died
Sept. 21.
Mr. Smith was the mayor of Newtown from 1986 to 1995. He also operated
an antique shop before retiring in 1992.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 25 at St., Andrew Church, Newtown.
Burial was at the Newtown Cemetery.
He was the father of Kay Bauman and the brother of Dolly McCabe.
He is also survived by a grandson, a great-granddaughter, two nephews
and two nieces.
