Para
los católicos hondureños en Filadelfia -¡La primera! El domingo 3 de febrero, la fiesta de Nuestra Señora
de Suyapa, la patrona de Honduras, fue celebrada en la iglesia Visitación

first for local Catholic elementary education
“Are you going to be the first woman president in the White House?”
That was the question a third-grader asked Patricia A. Miniszak, principal
of St. Mary Magdalen School in Media, when it was announced that she
will become the school’s first president this fall.
Pardon
& Peace
In
what Cardinal Justin Rigali has described as “a great crusade
of mercy and forgiveness,” every church in the Archdiocese will
make the sacrament of reconciliation available every Wednesday evening
during Lent. Four
decades later, a hero’s burial U.S.
Army Cpl. Michael J. Crescenz, a native son of the Philadelphia Archdiocese
who died a hero’s death in combat in Vietnam at age 19, will soon
receive a resting place of high honor — Arlington National
Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Tickets
limited for Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium The
New York Archdiocese will provide 3,000 tickets to the Philadelphia
Archdiocese for the April 20 Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium — not
nearly enough to accommodate more than 12,000 individuals who have already
requested tickets, according to archdiocesan officials.
Mass
touts Catholic athletes
Its genesis was in tragedy. Carlton Kenty, a standout player on the
St. Thomas More High School Catholic League championship basketball
team with college and bright future ahead, was killed in an automobile
accident the September after his graduation.

Local
treasure becomes national shrine
It’s official. In January, the Sisters of the Blessed
Sacrament received a letter from Msgr. Anthony F. Sherman,
executive director of the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) informing
them that the Shrine of St. Katharine Drexel in Bensalem has
been recognized by the Bishops and may henceforth be called
the National Shrine of St. Katharine Drexel.
