April: A time for awareness It’s hard for most people to imagine a person intentionally
harming a child. Our instincts tell us to protect children, not exploit
their vulnerabilities. Yet we know that the sexual abuse of children
happens with alarming frequency in our society. According to one estimate,
one in five girls under 18, and one in seven boys have been sexually

Bishop Maginnis: ‘History does not just recall events’
April 8, 2008, the 200th anniversary of the creation of the Diocese
of Philadelphia by Pope Pius VII, marks the end of a process that began
two- and-a-half years ago for Auxiliary Bishop Robert P. Maginnis.

Philadelphia
as a diocese turned 200 years old on Tuesday, April 8. They
took the high road — a pilgrimage from seminary to St. Rita It

honor Cardinal’s leadership
It is fitting that Philadelphia’s Catholic Philopatrian Literary
Institute chose the archdiocesan bicentennial year to bestow the organization’s
prestigious Sourin Award on the chief shepherd of the Archdiocese, Cardinal
Justin Rigali.

There
were smiles to spare as a set of triplets and two sets of twins were
were confirmed Sunday, March 30 at Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Among
the 35 sixth-graders confirmed by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph R. Cistone
were Zachary, Alex and Danny Walsh; Michael and Joshua Ockimey, and
Alexis and Raina Maskart.
