Ordination will take place during the Mass, following the homily. This year's Ordination brings the total number of diocesan priests in Philadelphia to 780. At the end of May, each of the newly ordained priests will be assigned to a parish in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where they will serve as parochial vicars. A parochial vicar is a priest appointed by the Cardinal to assist the pastor of a parish.
Those being ordained are: Rev. Mr. Andrew C. Brownholtz, Rev. Mr. Khoa M. Nguyen, Rev. Mr. John J. Nordeman and the Rev. Mr. Michael J. Reilly Jr. All have completed studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.
The graduating class of 2001 includes a native of Vietnam, an electrician and a former financial program analyst.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia continues the intensive effort to promote vocations to the diocesan priesthood that was announced by Cardinal Bevilacqua in January 2001, Philadelphia Priest Call. Priest Call consists of billboard, television and radio messages featuring the theme Ordinary Men Called To Do Extraordinary Work as well as grassroots efforts.
