Father Fernandes attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Elementary School in Philadelphia, Archbishop Kennedy High School in Conshohocken, Montgomery County, and St. Joseph's University before entering St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.

The homilist is his brother, Reverend David Fernandes. The deacons are Rev. Mr. Salvatore Bianco and Rev. Mr. Augustus Puleo. Concelebrants include Reverend Monsignor Bartholomew J. O'Brien, Reverend John B. Flanagan and other priest friends.

There are four men in the class of 2004. At the end of May, each of the newly ordained priests will be assigned to a parish in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where they will serve as parochial vicars. A parochial vicar is a priest appointed by the Cardinal to assist the pastor of a parish.
