REVEREND PAUL J. CAREY
1916 - 2007
Reverend Paul J. Carey, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Martin of Tours Parish, New Hope, died at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, on Sunday, July 29, 2007.
Father Carey was born June 26, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late John J. Carey and the late Margaret Flynn. Father Carey attended Saint Clement and Saint Francis de Sales Parochial Schools, Philadelphia, and Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Carey was ordained on May 30, 1942, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence Dennis Cardinal Dougherty. Father Carey served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Family Parish, New Philadelphia; Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, Allentown; Saint Charles Borromeo Parish, Bensalem; and Saint Michael Parish, Chester. Father Carey also served on the faculty at Saint James Catholic High School, Chester, and Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia. In 1971, Father Carey was named Pastor, Saint Martin of Tours Parish, New Hope, and Pastor Emeritus in 1991.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, on Friday, August 3, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend George B. Cadwallader, Reverend Monsignor William A. Dombrow, and Reverend Monsignor William J. O'Donnell. Monsignor O'Donnell will be the homilist
Father Carey is survived by his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Catherine R, and his brothers, William, John, Joseph, Edward, James, Michael, and Francis Carey. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
