REVEREND DANIEL M. DOOLEY

1933 - 2007


Reverend Daniel M. Dooley, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Gabriel Parish, Norwood, and Resident, Saint Matthew Parish, Philadelphia, died of metastatic melanoma at Saint Matthew Parish, on Monday, December 10, 2007.

Father Dooley was born on October 24, 1933, in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Daniel M. Dooley and the late Barbara Boyle. Father Dooley attended Holy Spirit Parochial School, Sharon Hill, Notre Dame Academy, Cathedral Parochial School, and Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Dooley was ordained on May 13, 1961, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Dooley served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit Parish, Sharon Hill; Saint Margaret Parish, Narberth; Immaculate Conception Parish, Jenkintown; Saint John Bosco Parish, Hatboro; Saint Madeline Parish, Ridley Park; and Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, Philadelphia. Father Dooley served as Pastor at Transfiguration Parish, Philadelphia, from 1979 through 1990, and Pastor, Saint Gabriel Parish, Norwood, from 1990 through June 2003, when he was named Pastor Emeritus. Father Dooley also served as Senior Priest at Saint Matthew Parish, Philadelphia.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Saint Matthew Church, Philadelphia, on Friday, December 14, 2007, at 5:00 p.m. followed by a viewing from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and a Parish Mass at 7:30 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali at Saint Gabriel Church, Norwood, on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. Dooley, Diocese of Allentown, Reverend Joseph J. Meehan, Reverend Monsignor John F. O'Brien, and Reverend Monsignor Richard T. Powers. Monsignor O'Brien will be the homilist.

Father Dooley is survived by his brother, Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. Dooley, Diocese of Allentown, his sister, Nancy McLaverty, and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Michael and Daniel, and his sister, Barbara Hosey. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
