Reverend Joseph P. Denny
1933-2008


Reverend Joseph P. Denny, Pastor, Saint Bartholomew Parish, Philadelphia, died of Cancer at Saint Bartholomew Rectory, on Sunday, March 2, 2008.

Father Denny was born on November 9, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Thomas Denny and the late Rose Boylan. Father Denny attended Saint Stephen Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Denny was ordained on May 20, 1967, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Denny served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, Ambler; Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia; Saint Eugene Parish, Primos; Saint Clement Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Norristown. He also served on the Faculty at Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, from 1969 through 1974. Father Denny served as Pastor at Corpus Christi Parish, Philadelphia; Assumption B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia; and Our Lady of Victory Parish, Philadelphia. He has been serving as Pastor, Saint Bartholomew Parish, Philadelphia, since January 1991.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Saint Bartholomew Church, Philadelphia, on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 8:45 AM followed by a viewing at 9:00 AM. In the absence of Cardinal Rigali, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Joseph P. McFadden at Saint Bartholomew Church, on Thursday, March 6, 2008. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Vincent P. Burns, Reverend Monsignor Francis X. Dreger, Reverend Bernard C. Farley, Reverend John J. Farry, Reverend Monsignor James J. Foley, Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Kelley, Reverend Monsignor James P. McCoy, and Reverend Karl A. Zeuner. Monsignor Foley will be the homilist.


Father Denny is survived by his brother, Thomas, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a great great nephew. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Corcoran, Rita Cripps, and Sr. Mary Patricia Denny, M.M. Interment will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Penndel.
