North Philadelphia's 2nd March of the Children
"Hands Across Lehigh"

Anchored by Catholic schools in North Philadelphia, from Port Richmond to Strawberry Mansion, there will be a march lead by the children of the community to raise awareness of the destructive effects of violence in our neighborhoods:

Saturday, April 26, 2008
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Starting at Saint Martin de Porres Church, 2300 West Lehigh Avenue
Concluding at Saint Anne Church, 2300 East Lehigh Avenue

The march began last year with recognition of the historic levels of murder in Philadelphia in 2006…and a concern for the pace of murders in 2007. This year's march begins with a short program at Saint Martin de Porres Church, where a few keynote speakers will rally our participants before their walk east along Lehigh Avenue. The children of Saint Martin de Porres School, Visitation B.V.M. School, Saint Anne School, Ascension, St. Hugh School, LaSalle Academy decided to orchestrate this 2nd walk to keep our communities focused on the levels of crime affecting our neighborhoods, and to model their response after Dr. Martin Luther King, whose peaceful marches and eloquent speeches helped to shape the consciousness of Americans in the 1960's.
