REVEREND WILLIAM J. COX
1929 - 2008


Reverend William J. Cox, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Peter Parish, Honey Brook, died of a massive Cerebral Hemorrhage at Holy Redeemer Hospital, on Friday, April 25, 2008.

Father Cox was born on December 9, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late William J. Cox and the late Eileen V. Sprissler. Father Cox attended Saint Helena Parochial School, Philadelphia, and LaSalle High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Cox was ordained on May 10, 1956, by Most Reverend John F. O'Hara, at Immaculate Conception Church, Philadelphia. Father Cox served as Parochial Vicar at Mary Queen of Peace Parish, Pottsville; Saint Joseph Parish, Spring City; Saint Francis de Sales Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Ambrose Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Joachim Parish, Philadelphia; Sacred Heart Parish, Havertown; Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Levittown; Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Bensalem; and Saint Matthew Parish, Philadelphia. Father Cox also served on the faculty at Bishop Kenrick High School from 1957 - 1962. Father Cox was appointed Pastor, Saint Peter Parish, Honey Brook in 1991 and named Pastor Emeritus in 2003.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Saint Peter Church, Honey Brook, on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at 4:00 PM followed by a viewing until 6:45 PM and a Parish Mass at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali at Saint Robert Bellarmine Church, Warrington, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:45 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor James D. Beisel, Reverend Peter J. DiMaria, Reverend Michael J. Fitzpatrick, Reverend Henry C. Graf, Reverend George G. Hagenbach, Reverend Brian P. Hennessy, Reverend Monsignor James P. McBride, Reverend Monsignor William J. J. O'Donnell, and Reverend Monsignor John A. Sharkey.
Father DiMaria will be the homilist.

Father Cox is survived by his brother-in-law, John Tronoski, his nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Tronoski. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
