DEACON GERALD F. KELLY
1933 - 2008


Deacon Gerald F. Kelly, Permanent Deacon, Saint Matthias Parish, Bala Cynwyd, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

Deacon Kelly was born May 28, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He retired from Gulf Oil Corporation in 1983 after 31 years of service.

Deacon Kelly was ordained on June 11, 1995, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua and was assigned to Saint Matthias Parish, Bala Cynwyd.

Reception of the body will take place at 6:00 PM. on Monday, May 19, 2008, with a viewing following until 9:00 PM, at Saint Matthias Church, 128 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bala Cynwyd.

His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Deacon Kelly at Saint Matthias Church, Bala Cynwyd, on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at 10:00 AM. A viewing will be held from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas, Reverend Monsignor Arthur E. Rodgers, Reverend Charles E. Gormley, Reverend James W. Moore, S.J., and Reverend Joseph J. Meehan. Monsignor Rodgers will be the homilist.

Deacon Kelly is survived by his wife, Helen, eight children, and eighteen grandchildren. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
