Philadelphia Summer Food Program Celebrates Peace Day and the Serving of Their "Millionth Meal" of the summer

WHAT: The Office of Nutritional Development Services will be hosting their Annual Peace Day Celebration. This year, Peace Day also coincides with that the Philadelphia Summer Food Program will be serving their "Millionth Meal."

The Peace Day Celebration with begin with students saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing peace songs. A few campers will share what their 'Piece' is in the 'Peace Puzzle.' After the brief program, lunch will be provided and the children will spend the rest of the afternoon creating peace crafts.

Sanctuary is one of over 600 sites who have been a part of the Philadelphia Summer Food Program. The Philadelphia Summer Food Program is a collaboration between the Housing Authority, Office of Nutritional Development Services and the Department of Recreation. Every day, over 41,000 meals (breakfast and lunch) are distributed to 23,000 children in the city. For over 30 years, this program has been a safety net for children and families throughout Philadelphia.
