DEACON CHARLES F. DEVINE, JR.

1948 - 2008


Deacon Charles F. Devine, Permanent Deacon, Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish, Chester Heights, died on Friday, August 29, 2008.

Deacon Devine was born July 10, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel elementary school, Philadelphia, Bishop Neumann High School, LaSalle College and Delaware Law School, graduating with a juris doctor degree.

Deacon Devine was ordained on May 24, 1987, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Excellency, Most Reverend Martin N. Lohmuller. His present assignment was at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish, Chester Heights. He previously served at Saint Francis de Sales Parish, Lenni and Saints Simon and Jude Parish, West Chester.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 P.M. and on Thursday, September 4, 2008 beginning at 9:00 AM, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills. In the absence of Cardinal Rigali, Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Deacon Devine at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, Glen Mills, on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Richard Williams and Reverend Paul Stenson. Father Williams will be the homilist.

Deacon Devine is survived by his wife, Diane and four children, David, Drew, Casey and Brittany. Interment will be at Saint Thomas the Apostle Cemetery.
