ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA SPECIAL EDUCATION CHOIR
TO MAKE DEBUT PERFORMANCE

Approximately 35 students from the five special education schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will perform together for the first time as the One Flock Choir. The choir members range in age from kindergarten through age 21 and have a variety of disabilities. Some students are blind or deaf or in wheelchairs, while others have Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, or other developmental or physical disabilities.

The choir will sing One Flock Song written by Dr. Ellen M.E. Wedemeyer, Assistant Superintendent for Special Education, and director of the choir. The members will be performing for the elementary administrators (principals and vice-principals) of the 182 parish elementary schools in the Archdiocese.

The One Flock Choir is made up of the 270 students that attend the five special education schools throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. These students will perform at various events throughout the Archdiocese as well as on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Concert for Excellence at The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.

The five schools of special education in the Archdiocese are: Archbishop Ryan School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, St. Lucy Day School for Children with Visual Impairments, Our Lady of Confidence Day School, Archangels Academy and St. Katherine Day School.
