1918 - 2008
Reverend Joseph J. Kennedy, Pastor Emeritus, All Saints Parish, Philadelphia, died at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, on December 22, 2008.
Father Kennedy was born on January 22, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Henry F. Kennedy and the late Anna Quinn. Father Kennedy attended Assumption B.V.M. Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Kennedy was ordained on May 22, 1948, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend J. Carroll McCormick. Father Kennedy served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Rosary Parish, Reading; Saint Anastasia Parish, Newtown Square; Our Lady of Grace Parish, Penndel; Saint Kevin Parish, Springfield; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Morton; Saint Ambrose Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Charles Borromeo Parish, Drexel Hill. In 1980, Father Kennedy was appointed Pastor, All Saints Parish, Philadelphia, and named Pastor Emeritus there, in 1993.
The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Nativity B.V.M. Church, Media, on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at 9:00 AM followed by a viewing. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali at Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Media, on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Assisting at the altar will be Reverend Edward H. Bell, Reverend Monsignor Henry B. Degnan, Reverend Peter J. DiMaria, Reverend Monsignor Timothy C. Senior, and Very Reverend Georges G. Thiers, C.O. Father Thiers will be the homilist.
Father Kennedy is survived by his nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
