THE DEAF APOSTOLATE TO SPONSOR DAY CAMP
FOR DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING CHILDREN

The Deaf Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is sponsoring Camp Overbrook, a two-week summer day camp for deaf and hard of hearing children, ages 6-14, who use American Sign Language. Approximately 42 children are expected to attend and 15 deaf teenagers will go through leadership training to work as assistant counselors.

Monday, July 13 -- Thursday, July 24, 2009
8:30 a.m. start daily
St. Charles Seminary
100 E Wynnewood Road
Wynnewood, PA

Camp Overbrook will include religion classes; water activities; arts and crafts; drama; sports; and daily afternoon cultural entertainment. Deaf storytellers, dancers, and hip hop performers will participate in the events. Deaf Olympians will also give a presentation to the campers.

The Cleveland SignStage Theatre performers serve as this year's artists in residence. During the family reception and closing celebration on Friday, July 24 at 1:00 p.m., campers will have the opportunity to act out stories with the SignStage artists.

The Deaf Apostolate provides pastoral care, sacramental preparation, worship opportunities and religious education to Catholics who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Apostolate sponsors Camp Overbrook through the support of local foundations, churches, individual donors and the deaf Catholic community.
