REVEREND JOHN P. O'CONNOR

1919 - 2009


Reverend John P. O'Connor, Retired and Resident, Saint Francis Country House, Darby, died of natural causes on Sunday, July 26, 2009.

Father O'Connor was born on January 13, 1919, in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late George J. O'Connor and the late Anna C. Doyle. Father O'Connor attended Saint Canicus Parochial School, Mahanoy City, and Mahanoy City High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father O'Connor was ordained on February 24,1945, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Hugh L. Lamb. Father O'Connor served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Bridgeport; Saint Bernadette Parish, Drexel Hill; Saint Timothy Parish, Philadelphia; Saint John the Baptist Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Benedict Parish, Philadelphia; Stella Maris Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Isaac Jogues Parish, Wayne; and Saint Katherine of Siena Parish, Philadelphia. Father O'Connor served as Pastor at Saint Benedict Parish, Philadelphia, and Saint Francis Xavier Parish, Philadelphia.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church, Milmont Park, on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 12:00 Noon, followed by a viewing. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father O'Connor at Our Lady of Peace Church, Milmont Park, on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at 1:30 PM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Louis J. Kolenkiewicz and Reverend Charles Zlock. Father Zlock will be the homilist.

Father O'Connor is survived by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth O'Connor, and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
