Since 1946, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has administered a program of historical markers to capture the memory of people, places, and events that have affected the lives of Pennsylvanians over the centuries. PHMC has chosen to honor the memory of Thomas E. Cahill with an historical marker for his founding of Roman Catholic High School, the first free diocesan high school in the United States, which served as a model for many Catholic and parochial schools across the country.

Following speeches by Mr. Spilove, Bishop McFadden and Councilman Kelly, the Roman Catholic High School band will play the school's alma mater
