Reverend Monsignor James J. Fitzpatrick, Pastor, Saint John the Evangelist Parish, Morrisville, died after battling Lung Cancer at Saint Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, on Monday, March 8, 2010.
Monsignor Fitzpatrick was born on March 22, 1951, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He is the son of James C. Fitzpatrick and Teresa S. Scaringi. Monsignor Fitzpatrick attended Saint Mary of the Assumption Parochial School, Phoenixville; Saint Pius X High School, Pottstown; and Pennsylvania State University, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Monsignor Fitzpatrick was ordained on May 19, 1984, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol, and named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II on March 14, 1998. Monsignor Fitzpatrick served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Cecilia Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Agatha/Saint James Parish, Philadelphia; and Queen of the Universe Parish, Levittown. Monsignor Fitzpatrick also served as Associate to the Vicar for Administrator and Director of the Office of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Monsignor Fitzpatrick served as Pastor, Saint Philip Neri Parish, Philadelphia, and in 2003 he was appointed Pastor at Saint John the Evangelist Parish, Morrisville.
The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Church, Morrisville, on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing. Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 PM. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Monsignor Fitzpatrick at Saint John the Evangelist Church, on Friday, March 12, 2010, at 1:00 PM. A viewing will be held beginning at Noon. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor David H. Benz, Reverend Paul C. Brandt, Reverend Paul C. Convery, C.O., Reverend Monsignor Michael J. Matz, Reverend Monsignor Gerard C. Mesure, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan, and Reverend J. Jerome Wild. Father Convery will be the homilist.
Monsignor Fitzpatrick is survived by his parents, James and Theresa, brother, Robert, and sister, Kathleen Daher. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
