Reverend Robert A. McLaughlin, Pastor, Saint Basil the Great Parish, Kimberton, died of cardio-respiratory arrest at Memorial Hospital, Townada, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, May 27, 2010.

Father McLaughlin was born on May 23, 1945, in Abington, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Joseph J. McLaughlin and Loretta T. Bulman. Father McLaughlin attended Saint Raymond of Penafort Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Bishop McDevitt High School, Wyncote, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father McLaughlin was ordained on May 19, 1973, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father McLaughlin served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Martyrs Parish, Oreland. He served on the Faculty at Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown. In 1982, Father McLaughlin was appointed Chaplain of the Temple University Newman Center and in 1991, he was named Archdiocesan Director for the Newman Apostolate. Father McLaughlin was appointed Pastor, Saint Basil the Great Parish, Kimberton, in 1998.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Saint Basil the Great Church, Kimberton, on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing. Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 PM. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father McLaughlin at Saint Basil the Great Church on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Charles J. McElroy, Reverend Joseph J. McLaughlin, Reverend John D. Reardon, Reverend John J. Sibel, and Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan. Father McLaughlin will be the homilist.

Father McLaughlin is survived by his mother, Loretta; his brothers, Reverend Joseph J. McLaughlin and Thomas F. McLaughlin; his sister, Loretta M. McLaughlin; his nieces, Lisa McLaughlin and Michelle (Michael) Smith; and his grandnephews, Max and Nicky. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
