Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Robert Maginnis
The Archdiocesan Office for Black Catholics will hold their annual banquet to support the Monsignor John Mitchell Memorial Scholarship. The Scholarship Fund has assisted 19 high school students since its founding in 2008. This year's banquet honoree is Most Reverend Robert P. Maginnis, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Philadelphia, and founding Chairman of the Scholarship Fund.

In 2008, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia received a bequest to fund a scholarship in honor of Monsignor John T. Mitchell. Msgr. Mitchell served as a priest of the Archdiocese from 1939 - 1981. During that time, he was the Pastor of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint Francis de Sales Parishes in West Philadelphia, where he was known for his faithful ministry to African American Catholics. He also founded Saint Ignatius Nursing Home in West Philadelphia.
