REVEREND THOMAS P. MCKELVEY

1935 - 2010


Reverend Thomas P. McKelvey, Retired and Resident, Saint Francis Country House, Darby, died of gastro-intestinal bleed at Saint Francis Country House, on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.

Father McKelvey was born on March 2, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Edward J. McKelvey and the late Margaret M. O'Shea. Father McKelvey attended Saint Gregory Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Saint Thomas More High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father McKelvey was ordained on May 19, 1962, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father McKelvey served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish, Chester Heights; Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Croydon; Saint James Parish, Elkins Park; Saint Helena Parish, Philadelphia; Visitation B.V.M. Parish, Norristown; Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Callistus Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Madeline Parish, Ridley Park. Father McKelvey also served as Pastor at Holy Saviour Parish, Linwood, from 1991 through 2002.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father McKelvey at Saint Francis Country House on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend John E. Fitzgerald, Reverend Charles E. Gormley, Reverend Richard E. Rudy, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan, and Reverend Paul Henry of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Father Fitzgerald will be the homilist.

Father McKelvey is survived by his brother Edward J. (Patricia) McKelvey, his sister Margaret Clinton, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
