REVEREND JAMES J. MCGINNIS

1948 - 2010


Reverend James J. McGinnis, Retired and Resident, Saint Francis Country House, Darby, died of ischemic heart diocese at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.

Father McGinnis was born on February 24, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late James Joseph McGinnis and Helene J. Monroe. Father McGinnis attended Good Shepherd Parochial School, Philadelphia, and West Philadelphia Catholic High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father McGinnis was ordained on May 20, 1978, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father McGinnis served as Parochial Vicar at Visitation B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Henry Parish, Philadelphia; Saint John of the Cross Parish, Roslyn; Saint John the Baptist Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Springfield; Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Media; Saint Joseph Parish, Collingdale; Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Bartholomew Parish, Philadelphia. Father McGinnis also served as Pastor at Our Lady of Hope Parish, Philadelphia.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father McGinnis at Saint Francis Country House on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Stephen M. Grozio, C.M., Reverend Monsignor William A. Dombrow, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan, and Reverend Joseph J. Zingaro. Father Grozio will be the homilist.

Father McGinnis is survived by his mother, Helene, four brothers, two sisters, and his nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
