ARCHDIOCESAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
EXCEL IN NATIONAL MATH COMPETITION

Award Ceremony Honors Winners of First In Math Competition


Students in 112 parish schools throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia have received recognition for their excellent performance in an eight-month long national math competition, First In Math. The online competition is designed to help students in grades K-8 practice math skills at all levels. Participants included public, private, and parochial students.

"We could not be more proud of the way our schools and our students have performed in this year's First In Math competition; these are stellar results" said Dr. Richard McCarron, Secretary of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. "This level of achievement is testament to the endless dedication of our teachers and the enthusiasm and commitment of our parents and students."

On the national level, 5,000 schools competed in First In Math this year. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia schools make up one fifth of the schools that ranked in the top 100 in the nation. Three of the top 10 and 21 of the top 100 come from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Of the 1.2 million students who competed, six Archdiocesan students from five different schools ranked among the top 100 individuals in the country.

At the local level, 1,000 Pennsylvania schools competed. 36 parish elementary schools from the Archdiocese finished in the top 100 state-wide.

- Villa Maria Academy, Immaculata (Rank: 97th)

Delaware County:
