Reverend John J. Foster, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Fallsington, died at Saint Mary Manor, Lansdale, on Monday, June 6, 2011.
Father Foster was born on March 4, 1925, in Coaldale, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late George W. Foster and the late Isabel Daley. Father Foster attended Saint Mary of the Assumption Parochial School and Saint Mary of the Assumption High School, Coaldale, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Foster was ordained on May 19, 1951, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Hugh L. Lamb. Father Foster served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Pompeii Parish, Bethlehem, and Saint Philip Neri Parish, Philadelphia. He also served on the Faculty at Saint James Catholic High School for Boys, Philadelphia, and Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia. Father Foster served as Principal at Bishop McDevitt High School, Wyncote, from 1971 through 1983. He also served as Pastor, Saint Matthew Parish, Conshohocken. In March 1989, Father Foster was appointed Pastor, Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Fallsington, and named Pastor Emeritus in 2000.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Robert Bellarmine Church, Warrington, on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Foster at Saint Robert Bellarmine Church, Warrington, on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor James Beisel, Reverend Thomas Duffy, Reverend G. Dennis Gill, Reverend Henry Graf, Reverend Stephen Katziner, and Reverend Monsignor William O'Donnell. Monsignor Beisel will be the homilist.
Father Foster is survived by his cousins. Internment will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Summit Hill, Pennsylvania.
