REVEREND GEORGE G. HAGENBACH

1926 - 2011

Reverend George G. Hagenbach, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Monica Parish, Berwyn, died at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Drexel Hill, on Monday, August 1, 2011.

Father Hagenbach was born on July 29, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late George Gustave Hagenbach and the late Mary Flatley. Father Hagenbach attended Saint Laurence Parochial School, Highland Park; West Catholic High School, Philadelphia; Swarthmore College; and University of Pennsylvania, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Hagenbach was ordained on May 8,1954, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John F. O'Hara. Father Hagenbach served as Chaplain, Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook. Father Hagenbach also served as Parochial Vicar at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia; Saint Louis Parish, Yeadon; Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Southampton; Assumption B.V.M. Parish, Feasterville; and Saint Bernard Parish, Philadelphia. Father Hagenbach served as Parochial Administrator and then Pastor at Saint Monica Parish, Berwyn, from January 1982, through June 2001, at which time he was named Pastor Emeritus.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Monica Church, Berwyn, on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing. A parish Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 PM. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Hagenbach at Saint Monica Church, Berwyn, on Monday, August 8, 2011, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Francis J. Bartos, Reverend Francis J. Cornely, Reverend Monsignor John M. Galyo, Reverend James W. Gormley, Reverend Henry C. Graf, Reverend Monsignor Richard J. Skelley, and Reverend Monsignor Bernard J. Trinity, Reverend Sidney C. Burgoyne will be the homilist.

Father Hagenbach is survived by a sister, Sister Nancy Hagenbach, SHCJ, a brother, Thomas E. Hagenbach, and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
