Deacon Zoilo Martes, Permanent Deacon, Saint Michael Parish, Philadelphia, died on Thursday, August 25, 2011.

Deacon Martes was born on November 8, 1932, in Utuado, Puerto Rico. He was retired from Superior Bedding where he was employed as a factory worker.

Deacon Martes was ordained a permanent deacon on June 4, 1989, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Anthony J. Bevilacqua. Deacon Martes served as Permanent Deacon at Saint Michael Parish, Philadelphia, since his ordination.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2011, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, at Saint Michael Church, 1445 North Second Street, Philadelphia. His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Deacon Martes at Saint Michael Church, Philadelphia, on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor John J. Miller and Reverend Herbert J. Sperger. The Homilist and Deacon of the Mass will be Deacon Jose M. Betancourt.

Deacon Martes is predeceased by his wife, Carmen Gonzalez Martes, who died on February 13, 2011. He is survived by three children, Carmen Nicotra, Irvin Martes and Linda Sanchez. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery, Philadelphia.
