OF FATHER LOUIS GUANELLA
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will be the principal celebrant and homilist at a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Canonization of Saint Louis Guanella.
12:00 p.m.
Saint Pius X Parish
220 Lawrence Road
Broomall, PA 19008 (Delaware County)
Saint Louis Guanella (1842-1915), priest and founder of the Religious Orders of the Servants of Charity and the Daughters of Saint Mary of Providence, and the Pious Union of Saint Joseph Prayer Association, was canonized a saint in Rome by Pope Benedict XVI on October 23, 2011. The miraculous healing of a Delaware County man cleared the way for the Canonization of Father Louis Guanella.
The local community will gather at this Mass to offer thanks along with the Servants of Charity, the residence, staff, and families of Don Guanella Village, Divine Providence Village, and Saint Edmond's Home. These three facilities are operated by Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. They provide residential and day care services for men, women, and children with developmental disabilities.
Saint Pius X, Pope from 1903 to 1914, was a contemporary of Saint Louis Guanella. He supported the Saint's ministry and was the first member of the Pious Union of Saint Joseph Prayer Association, established by Saint Louis Guanella to promoted prayer for the suffering and dying.
