PERMANENT DEACON EDWARD J. ANDREWS


1924 - 2012


Deacon Edward J. Andrews, a retired Permanent Deacon, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012.

Deacon Andrews was born on July 21, 1924 in Philadelphia. He was retired from Simpson Paper Company, Philadelphia, where he was a jitney operator.

Deacon Andrews was ordained a permanent deacon on June 4, 1989 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Anthony J. Bevilacqua. Deacon Andrews was first assigned to Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Parish, Philadelphia but after restructuring of the parish he was assigned to Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Philadelphia on September 7, 1993. He retired from his assignment on January 15, 2010.

Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Deacon Andrews at Saint Martin de Porres Church, Philadelphia, on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 AM Concelebrant and Homilist at the Mass will be Reverend Edward J. Hallinan. Deacon of the Word will be Deacon James L. Mahoney and Deacon of the Eucharist will be Deacon James T. Owens.

Deacon Andrews is survived by his wife, Annie, his three children, Marjorie, Edward, and James, as well as his five grandsons. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia.
