Reverend Ildebrando E. Schifalacqua, Pastor Emeritus, Our Lady of Loreto Parish, Philadelphia, and Resident, West Cape May, New Jersey, died on Friday, April 27, 2012.

Father Schifalacqua was born on October 10, 1918, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Ildebrando Schifalacqua and the late Ida De Sanctis. Father Schifalacqua attended Francis Reed Grade School, Philadelphia; James Wilson Grade School, Philadelphia; Southwark Junior High School, Philadelphia; South Philadelphia High School; and Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Schifalacqua was ordained on May 29, 1943, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence Dennis Cardinal Dougherty. Father Schifalacqua served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Anthony Parish, Easton; Our Lady of Angels Parish, Philadelphia; and Saints Cosmas and Damian Parish, Conshohocken. Father Schifalacqua served as Pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Coatesville, and Saint Michael of the Saints Parish, Philadelphia. In June 1966, Father Schifalacqua was appointed Pastor at Our Lady of Loreto Parish, Philadelphia, and named Pastor Emeritus there, in 1993.

Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Schifalacqua at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washington Street, Cape May, on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 1:30 PM. A viewing will be held from 12:15 - 1:15 PM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend James J. Anziano, Reverend Louis P. Bellopede, Reverend Gasper A. Genuardi, and Reverend Monsignor James P. McCoy. Father Anziano will be the homilist.

Father Schifalacqua is survived by his brother, Italo, and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
