PERMANENT DEACON WILLIAM E. CHAMPAGNE

1929-2012



Deacon William E. Champagne, retired Permanent Deacon, died on Sunday, September 9, 2012

Deacon Champagne was born on January 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army and after the service began a career in printing with General Electric and eventually opened his own shop. He later worked and retired from American General Insurance where he was an Insurance Consultant.

Deacon Champagne was ordained a permanent deacon on June 5, 1994, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints and Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by most Reverend Edward P. Cullen. He was assigned to Our Lady of Hope Parish, Philadelphia, and was honored for his sixteen years of faithful service there on November 20, 2010.

A viewing will be held at Our Lady of Hope Church, Philadelphia, on Saturday, September 15, 2012, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Most Reverend Joseph F. Martino will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Deacon Champagne at Our Lady of Hope Church, Philadelphia, on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Efren V. Esmilla. Bishop Martino will be the homilist

Deacon Champagne is survived by his wife, Lenora, and five children; Michelle Holland, Maria Harper, William Champagne, Monique Yates and Maurice Champagne, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Internment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
