Deacon Thomas E. Eichman, Permanent Deacon, Saint Kevin Parish, Springfield, died on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Broomall Presbyterian Village in Broomall, PA after a lengthy illness.
Deacon Eichman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Saint Joseph's Preparatory High School, Villanova University and Villanova University School of Law. He was a veteran of the Korean War with the US Army working in counter-intelligence. Deacon Eichman began his legal career with Schnader, Harrison, Segal, and Lewis in Philadelphia before leaving that firm to become a partner with attorney, John Donohue. He later practiced as Thomas E. Eichman Associates, P.C. until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the American Bar Association.
Deacon Eichman was ordained a permanent deacon on June 1, 1997, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Joseph F. Martino. He was assigned to Saint Kevin Parish, Springfield. He also served as chaplain of the Legion of Mary.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Saint Kevin Church, Springfield, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Deacon Eichman at Saint Kevin Church at 11:30 a.m. Concelebrating the Funeral Mss will be Reverend John C. Moloney and Reverend Thomas P. Gillin. Father Gillin will serve as Homilist, Deacon of the Word will be Deacon Arthur M. McGuire, Deacon Leonard J. Diana will serve as Deacon of the Eucharist, and Deacon Chaplains will be Deacon Eichman's classmates.
Deacon Eichman is survived by his wife of 31 years, Maureen, his son, Thomas E. Jr. (Lisa), his daughter Frances L. (Philip) McCabe, a brother, Peter L., MD (Phyllis), two step-daughters, Sherry (Paul) Kearney, Karen (Stephen) Monahan, five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward A. MD and Frances, four sisters, Mary, Eileen, Elizabeth, and Honora, and one brother, Edward. Interment will be in Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd.
