Reverend Edward J. Chwieroth, Retired, Resident, D'Youville Manor, Yardley, died at Holy Redeemer Hospital, on Thursday, August 8, 2013.
Father Chwieroth was born on November 22, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late John Chwieroth and the late Adamina Michalak. Father Chwieroth attended Saint John Cantius Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Saint Joseph's College High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Chwieroth was ordained on May 27, 1950, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend J. Carroll McCormick. Father Chwieroth served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Stanislaus Parish, Summit Hill; Saint Katherine of Siena Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Levittown; and Holy Angels Parish, Philadelphia. Father Chwieroth served on the faculty at Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia; Saint James Catholic High School, Chester; and Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia. Father Chwieroth also served as Chaplin at Sacred Heart Hospital, Norristown, and Home of Divine Providence, Philadelphia. He retired from active ministry in 1998.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Katherine of Siena Church, Philadelphia, on August 13, 2013 at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Robert P. Maginnis will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Chwieroth at Saint Katherine of Siena Church, Philadelphia, on August 13, 2013, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor James Graham, Reverend Monsignor Ignatius Murray, Reverend Monsignor Thomas Murray and Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan. Monsignor Ignatius Murray will be the homilist.
Father Chwieroth is survived by his nieces. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
