Reverend Charles W. Durney, Retired, died at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, on Tuesday, February 19, 2014.

Father Durney was born on May 6, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Charles J. Durney, and the late Dorothy Reed. Father Durney attended Saint Barnabas Parochial School, Philadelphia, and West Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Durney was ordained on May 18, 1963, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Durney served as Parochial Vicar at Queen of the Universe Parish, Levittown; Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Croydon; Saint Cecilia Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Andrew Parish, Newtown; Saint Laurence Parish, Upper Darby; and Saint Joseph Parish, Downingtown. He also served as Chaplain at Saint Mary's Villa, Ambler. Father Durney served on the Faculty at Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown, from 1970 through 1985. He retired from active ministry in June 1997.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 606 Shore Road, Somers Point, New Jersey, 08244.

Father Durney is survived by his brother, John (Lori), and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Saint Mary's Byzantine Cemetery, Tuscarora, Pennsylvania.
