REVEREND VINCENT F. WELSH

1963 - 2014



Reverend Vincent F. Welsh, Pastor, Saints Peter and Paul Parish, West Chester, died on Friday, May 16, 2014.

Father Welsh was born on October 4, 1963, in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania. He is the son of James J. Welsh and Patricia A. Dieckhaus. Father Welsh attended Visitation B.V.M. Parochial School, Trooper, and Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Welsh was ordained on May 20, 1989, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua. Father Welsh served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Christopher Parish, Philadelphia, and Saint Monica Parish, Philadelphia. He attended studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He served in the Office of the Metropolitan Tribunal, Office of the Chancellor, and as Assistant Director in the Office for Clergy. Father Welsh served as Pastor, Saint Philip Neri Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Norristown; and in July 2012 he was appointed Pastor, Saints Peter and Paul Parish, West Chester.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Church, West Chester on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing. A parish Mass will be held at 7:00 PM. Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Welsh at Saints Peter and Paul Church, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Anthony W. Dieckhaus, Reverend Joseph C. Dieckhaus, Reverend Patrick J. Welsh and priest classmates from 1989. Father Patrick Welsh will be the homilist.

Father Welsh is survived by his parents, James and Patricia, his brother Reverend Patrick J. Welsh, three other brothers, one sister, nieces, nephews, his uncles Reverend Joseph C. Dieckhaus and Reverend Anthony W. Dieckhaus. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
