Reverend Philip R. Barr, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Edmond Parish, Philadelphia, died at Neighborhood Hospice, on Thursday, November 27, 2014.

Father Barr was born on January 28, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Philip Raymond Barr and the late Marie Chobert. Father Barr attended Saint Rose of Lima and Saint Callistus Parochial Schools, Philadelphia, and West Catholic High School before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary

Father Barr was ordained on May 22, 1948, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by the Most Reverend J. Carroll McCormick. Father Barr served as a Parochial Vicar at All Saints Chapel, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Grace Parish, Penndel; Holy Saviour Parish, Linwood; Saint Patrick Parish, Norristown; Saint Eugene Parish, Primos; Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Secane; Saint James Parish, Elkins Park; Saint Philip Neri Parish, Lafayette Hills; Saint James Parish, Philadelphia and Saint Clement Parish, Philadelphia. In 1979, Father Barr was appointed Pastor, Saint Edmond Parish, Philadelphia, and Pastor Emeritus there in 1995.

In his retirement, Father Barr continued to exercise his priesthood by offering his service at parishes throughout the Archdiocese.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Edmond Church, on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 9:00AM, followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Barr at Saint Edmond Church, on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Francis J. Cornely, Reverend Joseph J. Kelley, Reverend Monsignor William J. J. O'Donnell, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan. Father Kelley will be the homilist.

Father Barr is survived by his brothers, D. Robert Barr and F. Donald Barr and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
